CPD: Energy Legislation

The Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) is the UK’s energy assessment and energy saving identification scheme that was established by the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme Regulations in 2014. ESOS was originally designed to meet the requirement of Article 8 (4-6) of the EU Energy Efficiency Directive (EED) but is now seen as a useful mechanism in the UK’s journey towards net zero. The scheme is operated and managed by the Environment Agency on behalf of the British Government and is estimated to lead to £1.6bn net benefits to the UK, with the majority of these being directly felt by businesses as a result of energy savings.
