Report highlights barriers corporates face in the energy transition

In the global shift towards sustainable energy, a new report by AECOM reveals that while many organisations are accelerating their efforts to transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources, only 17% have reached an advanced stage in their core decarbonisation ambitions. This highlights the substantial challenges that remain in achieving net zero emissions.

The global report, Lost in transition?, shows the findings of a survey of nearly 850 senior executives at companies across nine industries and 22 countries. The survey explored the organisations’ progress in their energy transition efforts, highlighting key challenges such as the inability to attract skilled professionals, the high cost of new equipment technology, and high energy costs.

However, it also notes that over 40% of senior executives believe the energy transition will ultimately drive down costs. The report aims to provide organisations with insights and actionable steps to navigate these challenges and successfully transition to net zero.

While there isn’t a standard outline for navigating this transformation, the report suggests a multitude of actions that organisations can take to accelerate a practical, profitable, predictable, and people-centric transition to net zero. It illuminates lessons learned from expert contributors around the world, sharing their insights, recommendations, and success stories.
