Radisson expands net zero hotel programme with global rollout

Radisson Hotel Group has announced the global expansion of its Verified Net Zero Hotels programme, with a target to establish 100 such properties by 2030.

The initiative moves from a 2025 pilot into a multi-year strategy aimed at scaling net zero operations across the company’s portfolio. The programme is designed to demonstrate that existing hotel buildings could achieve net zero status

The first phase of the rollout is due to begin in 2026, starting in Norway before extending to the United Kingdom, Denmark, Sweden and South Africa. The inclusion of South Africa will mark the first Verified Net Zero hotel on the African continent, broadening the programme beyond Europe. Further expansion is planned over the next five years into countries including Germany, Austria and Spain’s Canary Islands.

Radisson’s chief executive, Federico J. González Tejera, says:

“Verified Net Zero Hotels are an important step in our net zero transformation, setting a new standard for how hospitality can reduce its environmental impact while continuing to support people, destinations, and economic activity.”

The programme is based on a framework aligned with the Science Based Targets Initiative and applies to all emission categories. According to the company, direct and energy-related emissions are eliminated through electrification, renewable heating and cooling systems, and the use of fully renewable energy. Other operational emissions, such as those linked to food, waste and travel, are reduced as part of the approach.

Each hotel participating in the scheme is subject to independent verification by TÜV Rheinland, which assesses compliance with the net zero methodology.

Radisson says early results from two operational sites in Manchester and Oslo suggest both environmental and commercial outcomes can improve together. The company reported that more than 70% of guests were aware of the net zero concept at these hotels, while around one in five bookings were influenced by the properties’ sustainability credentials.
