Post-ESOS tips given by government guide
The guide, ‘A guide to implementing energy savings opportunities’, published in Partnership with the Carbon Trust, is aimed at firms which are inexperienced in energy efficiency and energy saving projects, while also offering experienced energy managers advice on how to make proposals more attractive to ‘decision makers’.
The publication, which draws on information and feedback provided by a number of businesses, also suggests how energy projects can “effectively compete against better understood or higher profile alternative initiatives,” while also advising how to “align projects with overall business strategy,” and “ensure resource is available to make the project happen and see it through to completion.”
Laura Timlin, Associate Director at the Carbon Trust, said: “The ESOS Regulations have resulted in thousands of organisations being made to investigate their cost-effective energy efficiency opportunities in more detail, which is a good thing.
“But we know from experience that many of them will need support to turn those opportunities into real savings on their electricity and fuel bills.
“This guide is a very useful resource which sets out the best place to start for companies that may not have that much experience in harnessing the benefits of energy efficiency, or need to understand more about the practicalities of implementation.”
The paper claims that cutting energy costs is “one of the most straightforward ways to improve its bottom line,” while also providing four steps for energy professionals to follow when implementing an energy saving policy; with the steps listed as building a business case, convincing decision makers, implementing the saving opportunity and monitoring and verifying the initiative respectively.
