New €60m heat pump plant opens in Slovakia

Hoval has opened a new production facility in Istebné, Slovakia, marking a €60 million investment in Europe’s heat pump sector. The company says the ePlant, its largest production site, will be capable of producing up to 32,000 heat pumps annually and could create up to 600 jobs by 2030.
The facility, which took two years to plan and construct, has been designed with sustainability features including a 400 kWp photovoltaic system, energy recovery using plate heat exchangers, green roofs and walls, rainwater harvesting, and a smart building management system. Hoval describes the ePlant as an example of combining ecological responsibility with industrial efficiency.
Officials from Slovakia and abroad attended the inauguration, signalling the project’s wider European significance. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Denisa Saková, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Juraj Blanár, and Liechtenstein’s Minister of Economy Hubert Büchel were among the guests.
