Germany's electricity mix 30 per cent renewables
The figure, produced by Arbeitsgemeinschaft Energiebilanzen (AE), the Working Group on Energy Balances, is an increase of just over four per cent from last year, while overall energy consumption has risen by around 1.3 per cent year on year, with improvements in energy efficiency compensating for some of the increase in energy usage.
Carbon emissions are set to “slightly increase” from last years figures, with AE not providing a specific amount, however the overall rise in renewable power, of approximately11 per cent, counteracted a proportion of the increase, with on and off-shore wind and generation rising by 50 per cent and solar power climbing by six per cent from last year.
Mineral oil is the largest contributor to the energy mix in Germany, generating a third of the country’s power, with natural gas the next highest provider at 21 per cent, while renewable energy has a larger role in the country’s power mix than nuclear, which provides 7.5 per cent of the nations energy, a reduction of almost six per cent from 2014.
