E.on makes big gas discovery in North Sea

If true, it will be one of the largest discoveries made in this part of the North Sea for several years.

The German energy giant says the Tolmount find will go some way in growing its upstream business and believes there may be other large gas deposits in the region.

"The well results will now be incorporated into development studies, with the aim of an optimised development in a short timeframe," says Frank Sivertsen, CEO of E.on E&P. “Tolmount could be one of the largest discoveries made in the Southern North Sea in the last decade."

E.on and its partner, Dana Petroleum Limited, hold equal shares of the block that is located 50km of the coast of Dimlington, Yorkshire, near existing gas infrastructure in the North Sea.

E.on E&P holds equity interests in around 50 licences in the UK and Norway and operates one third of these.
