Comprehensive guide to industrial cooling technologies released

In a move to help businesses navigate the complex landscape of industrial cooling solutions, Atlas Copco has unveiled a new e-book titled ‘Industrial Cooling Technologies: A Guide to Evaporative and Adiabatic Systems’.

The guide, which is now available for download on the Atlas Copco website, provides a detailed comparison of two of the most widely used industrial cooling technologies: evaporative cooling towers and adiabatic coolers.

“With process cooling systems, selecting the right technology is essential for ensuring efficiency and safety,” says Chris Ferriday, business line manager for Process Cooling Solutions at Atlas Copco. “This guide provides clear, actionable insights that will help people better understand the various cooling technologies available, enabling them to make choices that align with both their operational needs and sustainability objectives.”

The guide goes into the key considerations businesses must weigh when selecting a cooling system, including water usage, energy consumption, Legionella risk management, and the overall Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).

Evaporative cooling towers, while effective in large-scale applications, are known for their high water consumption. In contrast, adiabatic coolers offer a more water-efficient solution, but can be more energy-intensive in certain environmental conditions.

Atlas Copco says with growing environmental concerns and tightening regulations, this new resource is expected to be a valuable tool for industrial businesses looking to optimise their cooling systems and enhance their overall sustainability.

The eBook also addresses the risks associated with Legionella bacteria, which can thrive in cooling systems if not properly maintained. The guide explores how to mitigate these risks through regular maintenance, proper water treatment, and compliance with Health and Safety Executive guidelines, including the Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) L8.
