Changes are coming for Green Deal
Speaking to an audience at the UK Green Building Council's ‘Towards Green Deal 2.0’ event, the Minister announced a number of imminent measures designed to boost uptake of the Green Deal, including cutting the time it takes to complete a Green Deal finance plan to just one day.
Finance itself will also undergo adjustments to make it more attractive to householders. Barker also spoke of a substantial Government-led marketing campaign to better promote both the Green Deal and the RHI.
Barker emphasised the need for Government and industry to work together. He said:
"My key message today is that we need to stick together and to partner effectively to make sure we keep up the momentum. To succeed we will need to leverage your expertise, your reach with customers, your communications capacity, and your experience of what works and what doesn’t."
The UK-GBC recently released a report suggesting that the Green Deal has failed to deliver on encouraging homeowners and businesses to retrofit their properties. It has called for Government to reduce the interest rate under Green Deal finance, currently set at 8-10%.
