Meter reading deal agreed ahead of energy market changes

Calisen Metering Services has secured a multi-year contract with So Energy to deliver meter reading services across Great Britain, as suppliers prepare for major changes in the energy market.
The agreement will see Calisen, part of the Calisen Group, carry out data retrieval and site visits using its nationwide field workforce. The deal follows a competitive tender process in which the company was selected for its operational capacity and experience.
So Energy Trading Limited, which supplies energy and related services to around 300,000 homes, said it is investing in improved data quality ahead of the planned introduction of Market-wide Half-Hourly Settlement. The reform is expected to increase the importance of accurate and timely meter data for billing and regulatory compliance.
Calisen’s role will support So Energy’s operations as the sector adapts to the new system, which is designed to align electricity settlement more closely with actual consumption patterns.
Commenting on the partnership, Joe Unsworth, commercial director at Calisen, says:
“Our work with So Energy comes at an inflexion point for the industry. As suppliers prepare for Market-wide Half-Hourly Settlement, the importance of accurate and reliable meter data has never been greater. Calisen brings decades of experience in field operations, and a commitment to accuracy, safety and customer experience as key capabilities. These capabilities will support So Energy in delivering for its customers both now and in the future.”
Charlie Davies, CEO and Co-founder at So Energy:
“Our partnership with Calisen enables us to provide customers with accurate billing and better consumption insights to support effective energy management.”
The companies say the partnership reflects a broader shift towards a more data-driven energy system, with smart meters expected to play a central role in how customers manage their energy use.
