Boiler Upgrade Scheme applications rose 50% last month

New figures released by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero show that applications to the Boiler Upgrade Scheme rose by 49% in December when compared to the same month in 2022.

The rise in applications follows a 50% increase in grants for air source heat pumps announced by the Prime Minister last October, raising it to £7,500.

The regional breakdown released shows the South West has seen the most heat pump installations through the scheme so far at over 3,600. The South East and East of England have also seen strong uptake.

Commenting on the figures, Energy Security Secretary, Claire Coutinho, said:

“We recently made our Boiler Upgrade Scheme one of the most generous schemes in Europe. Applications are now up by nearly 50% compared to last year. Helping people, rather than forcing them, to make the right choices for their homes will always be my priority.”

Daniel Särefjord, CEO of Swedish manufacturer Aira UK, said in a statement:
