Roof upgrade at brewery includes solar
Oakham Ales, a brewery based in Peterborough, recently completed the installation of a rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) system with the support of Electron Green, a solar developer.
The project involved fitting a 458.85 kWp solar array on top of a newly overclad steel roof, which covers 2,084m2 and includes just over 1,000 PV panels. The installation was carried out in spring 2025 and was designed to address the challenge of the brewery’s ageing roof, which was upgraded as part of the same project.
Electron Green owns and manages the solar system, providing Oakham Ales with discounted, fixed-rate electricity through a Power Purchase Agreement. The system is expected to reduce the brewery’s reliance on grid electricity by 15% and deliver first-year savings of nearly £11,000. Over its lifespan, the installation is projected to prevent more than 2,200 tonnes of carbon emissions.

The installation was completed without disrupting the brewery’s operations and required no capital outlay from Oakham Ales. ■
