On-site energy system installed at logistics hub

An integrated energy system supplied by SOLAREDGE has been installed at Lombard Shipping’s HQ and logistics hub in Ipswich. The project combines rooftop solar generation, battery storage and electric vehicle charging infrastructure at the site, which is located near the Port of Felixstowe and serves as the company’s largest operational base.
Installation partner Insight Energy deployed the SolarEdge ecosystem comprising 226 photovoltaic panels equipped with power optimisers and connected to two 50kW DC-optimised Synergy inverters. The rooftop system is projected to generate approximately 118MWh of electricity per year. Project data indicates that around 83% of this will be consumed on site.
Energy storage is provided by a 102.4kWh commercial battery unit installed externally. The battery stores surplus generation for use during periods of higher demand or elevated grid prices. Six EV chargers have also been installed and integrated with the site’s energy management platform, which coordinates solar output, battery discharge and vehicle charging according to predefined schedules and real-time operating conditions.
Projected figures for the installation indicate an estimated payback period of just over five years and cumulative electricity cost savings of approximately £1 million over a 20-year period.
