Liquid cooling unit for high density data

CARRIER has introduced a new Coolant Distribution Unit designed to support the growing use of liquid cooling in UK data centres. The unit is manufactured by Carrier and forms part of the company’s QuantumLeap data centre solutions portfolio. It is designed to help operators manage higher rack densities while improving control over energy use, resilience and space utilisation.
The Coolant Distribution Unit is designed to manage secondary coolant loops used in liquid-cooled IT systems. Its control system enables precise regulation of flow rates and temperatures, to reduce pumping energy and maintain stable thermal conditions across varying load profiles. The unit uses modular heat exchangers capable of achieving approach temperatures as low as 2°C, compared with more typical levels of around 4°C.
Reliability features include redundant pumps and power supplies to support continuous operation during maintenance or fault conditions. The unit is intended for use in mission-critical environments where uninterrupted cooling is required. Integration into existing data centres is designed to be straightforward, allowing liquid cooling to be added with limited disruption.
The product range covers capacities from 1.3 MW to 5 MW, enabling deployment in both current and future high-density applications. The system is compatible with different liquid cooling configurations and can be monitored through Carrier’s controls platform for centralised oversight and performance analysis.
