Compact thermal storage unit for heat shifting and recovery

7 May 2026

The Central Bank Mini (P58) is a thermal battery developed by SUNAMP for storing and releasing heat in commercial and industrial heating systems. It uses the company’s Plentigrade P58 phase-change material to store thermal energy in a compact, sealed unit.

The system is designed to store heat from sources such as heat pumps, boilers and waste heat recovery systems at temperatures of up to 80°C and discharge it at around 53°C. It is intended for low-temperature hot water and space heating applications, as well as process heat use cases.

The Central Bank Mini has a footprint of 1.2 x 1.0 x 1.47m and is designed to store up to 80kWh of thermal energy per unit. It uses an insulated, non-stratified internal design with an integrated heat exchanger to manage heat transfer and minimise losses.

It is designed for integration with multiple heat sources, including boilers and heat pumps, and can also operate with waste heat and renewable energy systems. The unit is modular and can be connected in series or parallel to increase storage capacity depending on site requirements. The Central Bank Mini is described as having low standing heat losses and not requiring routine internal servicing under normal operation.
