Solid-state lighting

The term solid-state lighting refers to the use of semiconductor lightemitting diodes (LEDs) and organic light-emitting diodes (OLED) for illumination. Over the last few decades development of lighting technology such as T5 fluorescent tubes, electronic ballasts, CFLs and high intensity discharge lamps has made possible significant reductions in the lighting energy consumption. Solid-state light sources using light-emitting diode (LED) technology has the potential to deliver even greater energy and life cycle cost savings.
