Renewable Heat Incentive

As a member of the European Union, the UK is obliged to meet 15 percent of its energy needs from renewable sources by 2020. As a significant proportion of the UK’s energy use is consumed as heat in buildings it is important to consider heat when devising a national renewable energy supply strategy. Currently. the government is committed to sourcing 12 percent of heat from renewable sources by 2020. The vast majority of heat is supplied by fossil fuels – with 80 per cent being provided by natural gas alone in the UK.
