O2 first to offer energy management app in Europe
The product, set to launch this summer, enables customers to monitor and adjust heating temperatures, electricity consumption and water use on their smartphone when not at home.
Domestic heating firm tado° has also developed an energy-efficiency smart control for the new technology, which uses intelligent AC control system senses to adjust energy usage levels depending on conditions in the home when empty.
Speaking at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2016), David Plumb, Digital Director at O2, explained how the company is aiming to introduce smart innovation to homes, where he claims current technology is “stuck in analogue.
“Across a range of sectors, we’ve already seen technology evolve from analogue to digital to smart. But when it comes to our homes, the experience is mostly stuck in analogue. At O2 we are building an ecosystem that will deliver a complete smart home experience,” he said.
“By teaming up with the very best device, platform and service providers, we will be able to give people the smartest tech for their homes. With 25m O2 customers in the UK, we’re excited to be using our scale and expertise to help customers get the everyday benefits of connected tech in the home.”
Christian Deilmann, founder and CEO of tado° added: “There are perfect synergies between the collaborators on this project. At tado° we focus purely on climate control. We deliver products and intelligent algorithms for the highest possible comfort and efficiency at home. Together with O2 and AT&T, customers can experience a truly comprehensive smart home.”
